Suicide Attacks in Maiduguri Kill 23, Injure Over 100
Maiduguri, the capital of Nigeria’s Borno State, has witnessed a series of coordinated attacks carried out by suicide bombers that killed at least 23 people and injured 108. The attacks were carried out at a post office, a weekly market, and a teaching hospital, all of which were targeted at the time people gathered their things as they broke their Ramadan fast. The Nigerian military has accused the Islamist extremist group Boko Haram of carrying out the attacks, which seem to target the heart of the city that had just witnessed a period of calm. The attacks have been condemned by the country’s President, Bola Tinubu, who called them “evil-minded” and ordered his security chiefs to the city to take charge.
